I remember transfering over from the USS Midway just before the 84 West Pac Began and receiving a welcome aboard letter talking about all the ports of call that I had just came from. I tell you after the initial newcomer hazing and getting rid of some of the old salts(that never been to sea)the group of guys that made up the non-nuke E-Division were some of the best hoodlems and malcontents that I have ever served with. Just to List a few things that we did like the poker games in the light Shop,Stealing the original Jolly Roger that was suppose to fly during wog (shell Back)festivities Broadcasting the porn movies to the forward berthing areas,All the other dealings going on. I remeber the Kitty Hawk and the sub incident as I recall the ship was night unrepping with a supply ship and the Kittey Hawk was on the otherside the ships where both suppose to go to darken ship and we rigged the ship's running lights to look like the Kitty Hawk and the Kitty Hawk was to break away with her lights out. That is what I think contributed to her hitting the sub. I tell you that was the fastest I think the longbeach ever cruised getting out of that area. Kitty Hawk then painted a red submarine on it's medals bridge.I dicherged out during the SRA up in Bremerton if any of the crew members remember the E-1 shipmates give back a memory cause I still have alot of good ones left.
