Back To Reading Memories

I look back on the 8-1/2 years I spent in the Navy as the best years of my life. And the 3 years on "The Bitch", as it was known during this period, as the best of the best. Capt. Schraeder referred to it as "the Bucket". I think that was just his way of trying to instill a little pride. Between him and Capt. Fahland, I liked Harry the best, so did Andy. To Steve Herman, I knew Gordi, and we lite off the hydrogenator on more than one occasion to help fellow Nuc's with their quals. We also gave the AMR guys a few nervous moments with judicious operation of the condesate pump discharge valve. DFT quench ! ! Listen to 'em run! To Ken Rayburn. if you served under Harry, then we both were there about the same time also. To all my shipmates, fair winds and following seas! And someone please tell those conventional MM's in A Div., the Long Beach was a steam driven ship and did not have ion drive.
